Some love stories arrive unexpectedly. Others grow quietly through friendship, faith, shared purpose, and the decision to keep choosing one another.

Our story began through a professional connection at a conference in Denver, Colorado. What followed was a friendship built on mutual respect, meaningful conversations, laughter, faith, and a shared commitment to serving others.

Over time, friendship became love, distance became a proving ground, and two full lives began moving toward one shared future.

As we prepare to begin this next chapter, we are grateful to share our story with the family members, friends, colleagues, and community who have supported, encouraged, and celebrated us along the way.

We did not drift into love. We walked into it deliberately.

Chapter One

Where It Began

Some love stories begin with grand gestures. Ours began at a conference in Denver, Colorado, where we first met.

What started as a professional connection quickly became a genuine friendship. Kris was immediately intrigued by Catrena's outspoken, fearless, and out-front personality. She carried herself with confidence, style, and conviction. He admired not only her beauty, but also her belief system — her deep faith in God, her advocacy for women, and her passion for serving others.

But he did not immediately pursue her romantically. Instead, they became friends.

They bonded over shared organizational experiences and their responsibilities as CEOs of local agencies. There was mutual respect. Catrena appreciated that Kris was not trying to turn every interaction into something romantic. There was safety in the friendship — and strength in it.

Chapter Two

When Friendship Became Something More

Over time, work created more opportunities for them to communicate. Conversations deepened. Laughter came more easily. Somewhere along the way, Kris realized Catrena might be open to something more. He also discovered that she had been asking about him.

So, he asked her out.

What followed was not dramatic. It was steady, intentional, and easy. Their connection continued to grow. Being together felt natural — like two strong individuals who somehow fit without losing themselves.

There were many moments when Kris sensed that Catrena was different: the depth of their conversations, the ease of their time together, and the way they complemented one another.

But he knew she was his wife on a day that had nothing to do with romance.

After Catrena received a threatening note that had been left in her yard, the realities of their long-distance relationship became painfully clear. Kris could not immediately be by her side. The weight of not being able to protect her settled deeply within him.

In that moment, something became certain.

This was not casual.
This was not convenient.
This was covenant.

Long distance could have been their excuse.

They could have chosen easier options. They could have avoided the inconvenience.

Instead, distance became their proving ground.

They chose one another across miles and flights, across demanding schedules, responsibilities, and inconvenience. What could have weakened their relationship instead made it stronger. They became more intentional, more communicative, and more determined.

They chose each other repeatedly.
